Blue Man Group
Blue Man Group (BMG), founded by Phil Stanton, Chris Wink and Matt Goldman in 1980s, is a creative organization. The main activity of this group is a trio mute performance with paint, odd props, audience participation, sophisticated lighting and large amounts of paper.
It is also noted for having a "poncho section" of the audience. The audience members, in the front rows, are provided with plastic ponchos(square coating, with an open in the middle through with the head is introduced, used in South America) in order to protect them from various food, substances, paints, thrown, ejected or sprayed from the stage. The shows are family-oriented, humorous and often employ thought-provoking satire on modern life. Most of the humor breaks the fourth wall, for example, interrupting the show to ridicule latecomers in the audience. The performers, called Blue Man, are dressed in grease paint, latex bald caps and black clothing.
Theirs first audio album called “Audio”, released in 1999, contained a collection of full-length instrumentals and some of the music from theirs stage production. Three years later the group stage performance changed from theatrical shows to rock-oriented performance, which was seen in Moby’s Area tour, attended that year.
The 2003 brought the new album called “The Complex”, which contained the collection of songs developed during Moby’s Area tour in 2002 and unlike the album “Audio” they introduced a variety of vocalists and guests like Tracy Bonham, Dave Matthews, Gavin Rossdale, Adrian Hartley and Venus Hum's singer Annette Strean. The tour cleverly deconstructed the traditional rock concert experience into it’s often clichéd parts and was chronicled in a 2004 DVD release. The tour featured Tracy Bonham and Venus Hum as supporting acts.
On 26th September 2006 the Blue Man Group launched its second tour, called “How to Be a Megastar Tour” which ended in 22 April 2007 in Wilkes-Barre. They used Tracy Bonham as an opening act and vocalist, Mike Relm as the opening act for the second leg of this tour. In May 2007 started the third leg of the tour and included performances in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Santiago. Leg four will include more U.S. and Canada dates.
